How Can I Tighten Loose Neck Skin?

There are a variety of ways you can go about tightening loose neck skin, including exercises, firming lotions, weight loss, laser therapy, and surgery. The best option for you will depend on the underlying cause of loose skin as well as your comfort level and access to treatments. Many cases of loose neck skin can be remedied without harsh and invasive treatments like surgery.

Several issues may lead to saggy or loose neck skin. Excessive weight is one example. In this case, losing the weight is the best option for removing the skin since it is likely due to fat accumulation beneath the chin. You can also try doing neck exercises by tilting your face upward and flexing the jaw by opening and closing the mouth. Do this several times each to strengthen and tighten the muscles to reduce the signs of fat.

You may also reduce the appearance of loose neck skin by using an over the counter firming cream. Many times neck sagging is due to aging when collagen breaks down naturally in the skin, giving it a looser and less youthful appearance. Some creams claim to restore this lost collagen, although there is debate on how effective they really are. Find a cream with a money back guarantee, and make sure to give it enough time to work. You will usually have to apply the cream daily, sometimes several times a day, for several weeks in order to see results.

Once the creams are discontinued, however, the loose skin is likely to return. For more permanent results in getting rid of loose neck skin, you can consider getting a laser or radio frequency therapy. These treatments may be offered at health spas and resorts as well as certain plastic surgery practices. Make sure a licensed professional is performing your treatment, as an unskilled hand may lead to burns and other injuries.

You will receive the most permanent source of loose neck skin removal through plastic surgery. The skin can be cut and removed, and then the remaining skin is pulled upward and attached to the jaw. This gives the face a tighter, more youthful, appearance when performed by a skilled surgeon. Surgery does have a certain level of risk, is the most expensive treatment option, and you may suffer from scarring after your treatment. For this reason, you should consider less invasive methods of treatment before turning to plastic surgery.

@rundocuri- Some doctors that do laser skin tightening treatments also offer sedation for patients who have low pain tolerances. You should talk to your doctor about your pain control options before your treatment.

@rundocuri- I have a cousin who has had laser skin tightening on her neck, and she said that the procedure did cause some pain. Since she had to have several sessions to get the best results, she was able to get numbing cream to use for the remainder of her sessions. She said it helped control the pain quite a bit.

The bottom line is that if you are thinking about having laser skin tightening on your neck, talk to your doctor about your concerns about pain, and request numbing cream to use before your procedure.

I'm wondering if laser treatments for loose neck skin are painful and effective. I want to try something that will provide more drastic results than creams and exercises, but I don't want to have surgery.

I have tried many different types of cream that were suppose to tighten loose neck skin, and I don't think they work very well. This is especially true for people who have excessive skin or a "turkey wattle" appearance to their necks. Bottom line is that if this is your concern, you should save your money on skin tightening creams and make an appointment with a cosmetic surgeon or dermatologist.
