How Do I Choose the Best Musk Perfume?

When selecting musk cologne and perfume, it's a good idea to sample it first, as everyone's body chemistry reacts differently. Not all musk fragrances are made with the same ingredients. Although musk perfume has a fragrance similar to the natural essence of the human body, some fragrances may be derived from animal secretions. While animal rights groups and advocates have attempted to ban this practice, some perfumes are made with natural animal secretions.

Products that do contain natural animal essences are typically imported and expensive. Synthetically derived musk perfume is more common than animal-extracted varieties. A synthetic musk perfume may also be appropriate for vegans. Read the ingredient label carefully if this concerns you.

Depending upon your personal preference, you might prefer a blend of musk oil and spice. Some of the fragrance combinations include clove or cinnamon. Most musk fragrances will typically linger and may be more pronounced to others around you. Therefore, it is best not to choose a scent that seems overly strong. As a rule, a sweet or light musk scent is best for daytime or casual wear. You may, however, prefer a more enticing scent for special occasions.

Oriental musk perfume may incorporate scents such as sandalwood, jasmine, or mandarin. You can purchase these exotic fragrances online or at department stores and perfume boutiques. These fragrances are also found as concentrated spray colognes. If you're choosing a spicy or woodsy fragrance, it's best worn during autumn or winter months.

Consider a white musk perfume for everyday use. This scent is softer than most musk fragrances, and not overpowering. If you buy your fragrance as an oil, look for added ingredients to enhance your skin. Some white musk perfumes are enriched with vitamin E to condition the skin.

Choose a musk perfume with lavender oil for a relaxing effect. If you want something light and airy for spring and summer wear, choose a musk perfume with a floral or fruity fragrance. Look for a light musk scent with a subtle hint of lily, rose, or peach. Musk oil with a trace of sweet vanilla is also a good choice for the warmer months.

Musk fragrances with alcohol-based ingredients may cause skin irritation and dryness. If possible, choose a musk perfume that is alcohol free. In addition, you might wish to choose a musk fragrance that is dermatologist tested.

Many perfume companies make musk scents that have a variety of other scents. It is common for mixtures to include a bit of sweet, flowery, and spice scents to make a unique perfume. Ask the sales representative at your local department store to help you find the best musk for you, depending the scent combination you prefer.

I agree with the article that vanilla musk is great to wear in the colder months, but it also works nicely during all seasons in my opinion. You simply may want to try a lighter formula for the warmer months.

A vanilla musk body spray is lighter than a perfume, and is great for spring and summer. The smell goes great with other summer scents like coconut and citrus scents. Richer musk perfumes with vanilla are great as the seasons turn to autumn. They go very well with spicy scents.
