Hair, skin and nail vitamins are intended to keep these parts of the body healthy. Vitamins and minerals, such as calcium, biotin, zinc, and vitamins C, E, D and A, are believed to be crucial for supporting the health of skin, hair and nails. Hair, skin and nail vitamins can help keep the skin, nails and hair strong, supple and healthy, and they may also have other health benefits.

Vitamin deficiencies are believed to be most apparent from the condition of one's hair, skin and nails. Brittle, dry and dull skin, nails and hair can often indicate deficiencies of B vitamins, as well as vitamins A and D. Vitamin A is believed essential for normal hair and nail growth, and a deficiency in this vitamin may lead to more brittle nails and contribute to hangnails. Vitamin D can help to support the health of hair follicles, for strong hair growth, and can also help with the absorption of calcium for stronger hair, skin and nails. Biotin, a B vitamin complex, may help to support hair growth and prevent hair loss.

Antioxidant vitamins such as vitamins C and E can support skin health, removing free radicals from the body to prevent the damage caused by oxidation. This can help to slow the signs of aging and help maintain skin's youthful appearance. The zinc and calcium found in many hair, skin and nail vitamins can help prevent hair loss. Zinc and calcium in hair, skin and nail vitamins can also strengthen the nails, making them less brittle and less likely to break.

Omega-3 fatty acids form an essential ingredient of some hair, skin and nail vitamins. These fatty acids are said to help keep skin supple and well-moisturized. They can also support cognitive function and may have benefits for cardiovascular health.

The vitamins and minerals found in most hair, skin and nail vitamins are often the same vitamins necessary for overall good health. Calcium, for instance, helps support the health of teeth and bones. The body generally needs vitamin D in order to successfully absorb and use dietary calcium. B vitamins are considered essential for the completion of almost all physical processes. Vitamin C is generally necessary for the formation of connective tissue, for healthy immune function, and for cardiovascular health. Vitamin A can help support vision, and is also considered beneficial for the health of bones, teeth and mucous membranes.

@heavanet- I totally agree with you, and I also try to eat a healthful diet every day. However, there are days that I am too busy to get the foods I need. I also don't like to take vitamin and supplement pills.

When I can't eat the way I'm suppose to, I take vitamins and supplements that are in gummy form. There are now many varieties available, from fish oil to multi-vitamins. By having this back-up plan, I can be sure to get the vitamins and minerals that I need each day to keep my skin and nails looking their best.

@raynbow- For years I have noticed that my skin and nails seem healthier when my diet consists of plenty of fruits, vegetables, and dairy products. Since I don't like to take vitamins in pill form, I make sure that I get enough of each important kind from the foods I eat.

If you make sure that your diet is balanced and that you cut back on fatty foods and sugar, you will see a difference in the looks of your hair and the strength of your nails.

This is a very informative article that illustrates how important it is for people to get the right amounts of vitamins and minerals in their diets each day. This is not only important for their health but also for their good looks. Taking a high quality multi-vitamin that contains all of these is a great way to get what you need.
