What Are the Best Tips for Making Homemade Eye Cream?

Many consider homemade eye creams to be a better alternative than commercially available eye creams, many of which contain harsh and irritating chemicals. An almost limitless number of ingredients can be used to make natural eye creams. Most organic eye cream recipes start by melting some kind of wax, like beeswax or lanolin, in a double boiler and adding some kind of oil, like olive oil or almond oil. This mixture should be removed from the heat before adding other ingredients, like aloe vera gel or grapefruit seed oil. When using a homemade eye cream, apply a small amount of cream to the skin around the eye and then blend gently, making sure not to pull the skin.

Making homemade eye cream is a relatively simple process. First, a double boiler is used to heat and melt some type of wax, and then an oil is mixed into the melted wax. After being removed from the heat, the wax and oil mixture are then combined with ingredients chosen for their specific benefits to the skin around the eyes. If there is no double boiler available, the wax and oil can be heated by placing them in a glass bowl, and setting the bowl on top of a saucepan that has been filled with water. Set the saucepan on a stove eye set to low heat.

Aloe vera gel is a popular homemade eye cream ingredient because it helps to reduce puffiness and inflammation. To make an aloe vera eye cream, melt beeswax in a double broiler, and add apricot kernel oil. After removing that mixture from the heat, mix in the aloe vera gel.

Many other ingredients can be used to make homemade eye creams, including vitamin E, grapefruit seed oil, cocoa butter, and olive oil. Once an individual knows the benefits of various ingredients and how to combine them, there is almost no limit to the types of natural eye creams she can create. For example, cucumber juice, chamomile oil, and rose oil can be used to reduce inflammation, puffiness, redness and irritation. After the homemade aloe vera eye cream has cooled, a few drops of any of these ingredients can be added to the mixture to increase the cream’s benefits.

When making homemade eye cream, use a wooden spoon that is thoroughly cleaned and that, ideally, has never been used for anything else. Homemade eye creams can be stored in a covered, sterile pot. Before using homemade eye cream on the delicate skin around the eye, test the cream on a patch of skin in another area to see if it causes a negative reaction.
