I have a big mustache for the first time in my life. The only con I'm experiencing is the worry that food might get stuck in my mustache. I have to be very careful and tedious while eating. And I have to go to the restroom and make sure that my beard is clean after a meal. I comb it and wash it regularly to make sure it's clean and neat. If I decide to shave it off, this will definitely be the reason.
MY dad has a big mustache. It did require a lot of maintenance in the beginning when he was shaping and styling it to look exactly right. But now, it has grown to an extent where just a little bit of hair wax and a weekly trim does the job.
So although maintenance may be an issue in the beginning, it doesn't always stay that way. In fact, having a big mustache after a certain point is easier than shaving every day.
Depending on the culture and social circle, having a big mustache may or may not be and advantage as an ice-breaker in communication. Some people stereotype men with mustaches and look down on it. In such circles, having a big mustache is probably not the best way to make friends.
In other circles and cultures, the opposite is true. For example, there are many mustache and beard clubs where men exchange ideas and tips about facial hair.
