What is Parafango?

A combination of dehydrated beauty mud, paraffins, and other healing ingredients, Parafango is a popular cellulite treatment. A nourishing skin treatment, Parafango is used to help promote circulation. It can also be applied as an exfoliant.

Parafango therapy helps reduce fat cells, resulting in weight loss. Parafango serum is massaged into the skin during treatment. Warm paraffin is then applied all over the skin. Following 15 minutes of swaddling within a hot blanket, the treatment is peeled off the body.

Some people prefer to precede the treatment with a salt or sugar scrub, though this is not necessary for Parafango to work. Certain salons may also opt to coat the body with a liquid solution, such as Aminocel, to pre-treat cellulite and eliminate toxins. Other extracts, such as caffeine, may also be added to the treatment to stimulate the process.

Other variables in the process include variations on the wrap used itself. Some salons may use a plastic sheet, while others might wrap individuals in cellophane. Additional heating measures, such as the addition of an electric blanket, can also be implemented to quicken the process. The entire treatment generally lasts from 30 to 60 minutes.

The most popular use of the treatment includes its application to the hips, thighs, abdomen, and buttocks. Health professionals say that the mixture rids the body of toxins in these target areas, especially from fat cells. This process is said to work through the detoxifying effects of sea mud, or fango, and the heating properties of paraffin. Parafango is also supposed to help the body rid itself of fluid.

Most proponents of the treatment extol its skin smoothening results. Some claim that the beauty regimen also soothes sore muscles and body pain. Relaxation, skin rejuvenation and tightening, dimpling and stretch mark reduction, and other effects have also been reported. Users of the therapy claim that it is akin to the effects of a mini-sauna.

Within a salon setting, treatment time can vary. Many salons provide a 90 minute treatment. Beauty care specialists claim that one application will yield beauty benefits. They also recommend a total of six to ten treatments for optimal results.

At-home kits are also available for purchase. These typically include several pounds of the mixture, plus a brush, warmer, film cutter, film, and measuring tape. Some kits even include bed sheets for wrapping in. Manuals containing instructions are generally included as well.

Prior to being treated, people are advised to refrain from eating fried foods both before and after the application of Parafango. Lotion should not be used on the day of application. A minimum of 80 ounces of water should be consumed throughout the day of treatment as well. Some additional supplements and beauty care products may be recommended to preserve the effects following treatment.
